Penguin Island (I) cave DA

Penguin Island is a 12.5 hectare island just off the coast of Rockingham, Western Australia.
In 1914 Seaforth McKenzie, an eccentric New Zealander, squatted on Penguin Island. He acquired an annual lease from the WA government in 1918.
Seaforth created caves such as this one, by digging in to the limestone rock, which he used for simple resort style living where people could stay.
A grand ballroom known as 'The Palace' was also made, where he was crowned the 'King of Penguin Island'.
He left in 1926 returning to his family in New Zealand, after being missing for 45 years, saying that he had lost his memory.
