Chalmers (I) Launceston
Constructed 1859
Chalmers is no longer used as a church.
It was nicknamed the
'Wedding cake church'.
Built in 1859. Architect W.H.Clayton.
It was originally the Free Church of Scotland, later Presbyterian,
then de-consecrated in 1981.
Anecdote:
December 2011
I was on my way to the airport, travelling through Launceston in the Airport Shuttle bus, when I saw this amazing ruin of an old church.
I noted the area so that I could find it again and on my return,
made a special journey
from my home in the country, to go to Launceston and photograph it.
It was the most beautiful, sunny,
Tasmanian summers day!

Sculptures; A winters day in the cemetery
Jesus & Joseph statue
This marble sculpture is a magnificent 'work of art'...it is difficult
to imagine how long it would have taken to create...the detail is
exquisite!

Anecdote:
I chose an overcast day to visit a cemetery, in WA,
to assist me in creating the sombre but peaceful atmosphere,
for these photographs.
In-between light showers of rain, when I sheltered under trees
trying to protect my camera, I wandered through this historical area
to capture some images of the statues in what may be our final resting place.
